Grandma's Kitchen
Freshly starched curtains,
Billowing in the breeze,
Blowing in, blowing out.
Little pots of herbs,
Sitting on the sill,
Soaking up the sunshine,
Their scents permeate the air.
Cupboards white and clean,
With appliqued flowers
Add a little warmth
A rolling pin, bread board,
Hair pulled back,
Flour smudging her face,
Hands busy kneading,
An apron around her waist.
Sweet rolls in the oven,
Butter frosting awaits.
Percolating coffee,
Cream to go with it,
Sugar standing by.
Stainless steel kettle with
Soup on the stove,
Steaming, simmering,
Taunting, teasing,
Appetite, anyone?

Tovah lives in rural Western Kansas. She is a lifelong Kansas resident and is new on the writing scene and just recently has begun writing poetry. Tovah has been writing short stories for several years, but has not yet submitted them for publication. Her talent for poetry was discovered accidentally. Her friend who is a professional writer showed her a poem that she was struggling with and Tovah offered a paragraph of suggestions. Her friend responded by saying, "Look! you wrote a poem!" Tovah did not believe her. To prove that she was NOT a poet, she wrote another poem, but it, too, was submitted and accepted! Tovah’s work has recently appeared in Poetic Voices, Reflections, and Poet’s Pen. You may contact her below.
