Desk Feng Shui

It is easy to experience the truth of "you are what you eat" especially after your Thanksgiving or drinking a power shake before your workout. The same is true about your environment, "you are your home and your home is you." With over 5000 years of time tested accuracy, the Chinese have proven decorating tips that will enhance your life.

All areas of your home and office are important to bring harmony, but your desk and its placement is significant for creativity in business affairs.Feng Shui, which translates into wind and water, provides easy, creative and fun ways to design your environment to benefit your love life, family relationships, career, and finances. While all areas of your home and office are equally important to bring harmony and life enhancement, your desk and its placement is significant for creativity in business affairs. Whether your desk helps you run a publicly-traded corporation, a home based business, or if it is just the place where you manage your personal finances, your desk is the most important symbol for financial success.

In understanding the mind’s relationship with Feng Shui the probability of Feng Shui success is greatly magnified. Consider this analogy to understand how Feng Shui works. For most of us, when we have a million things to do, they randomly jumble in our head and it creates stress. There is no room to think! As soon as we write down the list, our head clears, tasks get prioritized, and they get done. Additionally, with our "empty unstressed head," new ideas and creative solutions have a clear path to enter. Analyzing the thought "you are you are desk and your desk is you, "if it is it full of clutter, there is no room for anything else and it blocks new possibility.

Feng Shui works through your unconscious response to what you see and experience in any given environment. With that in "mind" and understanding, consider all the life enhancing possibilities of why and how these office tips will make a difference in your life!

  • Select a space that you like, that feels good! While this appears obvious, too many times a client will say, "well, I never really liked it..." If you have the choice, don’t settle! If you don’t have options, such as you work for someone else or have limited space, try to apply the "Goldilocks rule:" have lighting, temperature, and air circulation, along with enough "just right" personal and work space.

  • Surround yourself with art and accessories that make you happy. In all good Feng Shui, only have what you find beautiful, functional, and/or symbolic. What art and accessories do you have that can be symbolic of your financial success? As a travel agent, you might have beautiful travel photographs in gold frames (metal represents abundance), if you are an attorney, how about a bronze scale of justice, or if your are a chief, a silver gravy boat would be a perfect pencil holder. Be creative and have fun! Even if your desk is only used to pay your bills, consider having a beautiful empty brass bowl to symbolically provide a place to hold your riches.

  • Have nothing behind the door to your office so that it can open completely. You don’t want anything to block your path to success!

  • Avoid Jessie James syndrome! Never sit with your back to the door. If it can't be helped, position to mirror so that by easily raising your eyes you can see who's coming from behind you. Jesse would never count his bounty with his back to the door. Being startled from behind creates insecurity. At your desk: financial insecurity!

  • Try to position your desk on the diagonal line as far from your office door as possible. When you sit in the "command position," you are in command of all your business affairs.

  • "File your piles" to get rid of unnecessary clutter. With your to-do list, you'll remember everything that needs to be accomplished.

  • Design your workstation so that everything you need is easily accessible just by spinning around in your chair.

  • Position your light source so it does not create a "shadow of darkness" on your work surface. While avoiding glare and using natural light if available, "illuminate" creative and financial possibilities. If feasible, direct light for optimum efficiency: right-handed people should have light directed over their left shoulder, left-handed people, over their right.

  • Have some chi (or energy) enhancers around you for creative and gentle motivation. In your home office, have kitty at your feet, a fish tank, live birds or plants. Too much trouble or impractical? Have them around in art form. Symbols of live chi are great Feng Shui! Keep the energy flowing with soothing music or windchime. Have your energy lifted with the fragrance of aromatic candles or diffused essential oils.

Now that you know how Feng Shui works and you have effective tips for positively enhancing the business aspects of your life, try the same concepts to your bed, stove, and everywhere that you spend a lot of time! Just think how your health, love and family relationships, and how you nurture yourself will improve all aspects of your life.

As you begin to spin on the magical wheel of life-success, know that it is contingent on all the "helpful people" that assist and continue to support you. Show appreciation and gratitude by giving back to your colleges, associates, family, friends, and community. We are all here to help each other spin in success and love. With sincerest wishes for great success, now, go get Feng Shoeing!
